According to published reports, the US Air Force may freeze development of upgrades to the F-22 Raptor to afford more of the new fighter jets. According to the Air Force Chief of Staff, General Michael Moseley, freezing funding for further advancements would allow the Air Force to purchase four more F-22 "A" model aircraft and would aid in keeping the F-22 production line open until the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter begins full production.

Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne reportedly said that the idea of freezing development of upgrades for the F-22 is gaining acceptance, but has not been approved by all the decision makers yet.
