Sep 19, 2012 - Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, and the U.S. Air Force are conducting flight tests for an enhancement for the T56 turboprop engine, which powers the C-130H transport aircraft. The Series 3.5 Engine Enhancement is designed to deliver fuel savings and reliability improvements, resulting in improved life cycle costs. [Read more...]

Sep 05, 2012 - The Sultanate of Oman recently took delivery of its first C-130J Super Hercules military transport aircraft in a ceremony held at Lockheed Martin's Marietta facility. The aircraft is the first of three to be delivered this year, after the contract was first signed by the two parties in 2009. [Read more...]
418th FLTS takes testing new C-130 airdrop system to whole new level
TSgt. Christopher Jones, 418th FLTS C-130J flight test loadmaster, evaluates the cargo area July 13 during a high speed container delivery system test on a C-130J. The 418th FLTS and the C-130 Flight Test Team at Edwards AFB, Calif., is currently testing a new airdrop method called the high speed container delivery system. "Son Tay" Talon flies into history
Aircraft 64-0523 "Godfather" lifts off for its final flight on June 22, 2013 at Duke Field, Fla. The final flight will land at Cannon AFB, where 0523 will become a static display at the base’s airpark. The aircraft has the distinction of leading the Air Force’s assault force during the Son Tay Raid to rescue prisoners of war in Vietnam in 1970. [USAF photo by TSgt. Samuel King Jr.]

May 01, 2012 - The propeller blades were cycling in synchronization as the dedicated crew chief stood in front of the nose of the aircraft, rubbing it in cyclical fashion, jocularly encouraging the blades to keep turning. As the crew chiefs backed off and gave the "thumbs up" to the aircrew, the C-130E began to taxi down the runway on the flight line at Little Rock Air Force base, Ark., and took off to the sky. C-130s soaring through the air is a common sight for citizens of the base and its surrounding area, but this was anything but a common flight. [Read more...]
