Hit rocky slope on night approach 16 kilometers away from CFS Alert, North West Territories on Ellesmere Island. All survived the impact, but five passengers and crew succumbed to hypothermia while the remaining thirteen survived. Rescue attempts were reduced due to a blizzard. A film called Ordeal in the Arctic was based on the story about this crash.
