1982 squadron 44 assigned a mission to bomb Kharg island with 4 Su-22 formation :
Pilots :
Major - Mahmood Rasheed Albayati
Lt. Basim
Captain Hatif Mahmood Hamad
Lt. Mohammed Rajih Sleman

When the formation was over the gulf waters ..No.4 called the formation leader that No.3 aircraft had hit the water and it seems the pilot drowned with it !... So the formation leader ordered No.4 to return to base ( I don't know why ?! ) .... When the formation ( 2 aircrafts remained ) reached 15Km from the island 2 F-14 appeared and they fired a missile that destroyed the Formation leader plane and he died with it .... So No.2 decided to through his bombs and EFT and lit his after burner and escaped to reach base safely...

This disaster caused by Maj Gen.Salem Albeso who insisted sending the pilot on his wedding day make him crash in to the water and kill the formation leader, After this incident Maj Gen.Salem Albeso faced large wrath of Sukhoi pilots and the leadership of the Air Force in Baghdad. he was very strict and tough personal.
