My memory of Bill: I flew with him on my final T-37 "Tweet" instrument checkride at Columbus AFB in May 1996. I had a very rough time with Tweets and failing that checkride would have been the end of flying for me. I had never flown with him before, but in the jet he made me feel very much at ease, which made for a good sortie, and a passing grade.
My condolences to his family.
My memory of Bill: riding in the truck down to Gunshy to run the RSU there in the heat of a Mississippi summer. A great guy, but more importantly a godly man who is alive and well in Heavan with the One True Living God!

Twenty years ago - in 1994 - Major Burchett was my T-37 instructor when I was a 2nd Lt at Columbus AFB, MS. He was truly an amazing - and very patient - instructor. He was also one of the kindest people I meet during my time in Pilot Training (aka UPT). My English at the time was very poor, and Major Burchett dedicated a considerable portion of his off-duty personal time to teach me English. RIP, Major Burchett.
