Converted to the C-130E when the first aircraft arrived on October 11, 1963 at Pope AFB, North Carolina. Was one of the first C-130E operators alongside sister squadron 777th. Renamed from the 776th Troop Carrier Squadron to the 776th Tactical Airlift Squadron in 1967. Saw much action around Vietnam with detachments on a TDY basis in several places during the 1960's. Several aircraft were lost during the conflict. Disbanded during October 1975.
