Errors and Omissions

VC-3

I joined the squadron in 76. Although we often flew at Pt Mugu for big exercises, our base was NASNorth Island, Coronado, CA.

When I joined we had the original 2 A models, 228 and 229. These were our only birds until we basically stole the 3 Air Force birds just before they were mothballed. (This was a deal just between our CO and the AF squadron CO. Bypassed many stars both AF and Navy over a weekend. Monday morning when our base admiral sW 3 camo painted birds on our Tamarac, things came unglued. 1st he was mad he had been bypassed, then when AF wanted them back, Navy said we got them we are keeping them.)

MQM launch crew

I was stationed in VC 3 from July 1975 until January 1977. I was crew leader for MQM launch crew for a good part of that time. We went to San Clemente, San Nicholas and Point Mugu one or the other ever week. I painted a target for the bicentennial in 1976. It was an American Flag. I still have the pictures. One of them was given to the CO to hang on his office wall.
