Established in 1968 at Agana, Guam. Served as communications platforms as command connections to US Navy ballistic missile submarines. Squadron moved to NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii in 1981. Began converting to the E-6A Hermes (Mercury) on August 3, 1989 when the first E-6A entered service with VQ-3. Also made the moved to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.
