Originally active with the AC-130s on July 1, 1970 as the 415th Special Operations Training Squadron. Wore the AH tail code along with the rest of the wing beginning in 1972 until June 30, 1975 when the squadron disbanded. The 4450th Tactical Squadron at Tonopah, Nevada flew the F-117 from 1979 till 1989 when it renumbered the 415th Tactical Fighter Squadron until disbanded in 1993. Activated as the 415th Special Operations Squadron on September 22, 2011. At that time it absorbed personnel and equipment of 58th Special Operations Wing Detachment 1 at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.
