The exploding landmine holed the port external fuel tank and set the number two (port inner) engine on fire. A crew of nine and 26 passengers (including SAS troops) escaped safely. Later the government revealed a large amount of cash was onboard that was to be reward money for warlords in Afghanistan to be used to gain help and intelligence.
