If by "Non-Military" you mean "civilian", as in Lockheed 382, then it follows that they are to be maintained according to some "approved" airworthiness and maintenance program, which should specify the maintenance literature you are allowed to use. Another obstacle to maintaining any aircraft with manuals from another "family" of the same aircraft, is the configuration differences which you will encounter. IPC and maintenance manuals will be missing info specific to the bird being maintained. Lastly, the legal aspect, you should never release any aircraft, but particularly a civil registry aircraft for flight based on non-applicable manuals and procedures.
