Dale “Snort” Snodgrass, legendary F-14 Tomcat pilot and skilled airshow performer was reportedly killed on Jul. 25, 2021 in the crash of a SIAI Marchetti SM.1019 in Lewiston, Idaho.
A legendary Naval Aviator has flown west.
Dale “Snort” Snodgrass, legendary F-14 Tomcat pilot and skilled airshow performer, was reportedly killed on Jul. 25, 2021 in the crash of a SIAI Marchetti SM.1019 in Lewiston, Idaho. According to AvWeb, details remain sketchy. The SIAI-Marchetti SM.1019 is an Italian STOL liaison monoplane built by SIAI-Marchetti for the Italian Army, and based on the Cessna O-1 Bird Dog.

Horrible news.
I saw him fly an F-14 demo at Pratt's East Hartford facility in the 1980's. At the time, I didn't know who he was but man, that left an impression. Low ceiling that day, and he proceeded to tear it up. Flogged and beat that air unmercifully, something I'll never forget.
Prayers for his wife and family. His reputation speaks for itself, a man who excelled like no other in one of the most iconic airframes of all time...

He was one of the very best fighter pilots to ever grace this earth......maybe the BEST!
