Wonder if this still happens?
In days gone by there were lots and lots of aircraft carriers often in the same area, they may have all looked alike, throw in some bad weather and not so good visibility and you will have these events: aircraft lands upon the wrong carrier. You may be aware that USN carriers these days have a very large number on the port side of the island (at least) which is visible going downwind in the circuit. RN carriers have a very large number on stbd side of their flight deck these days.
Today it is a newsworthy event to have two USN carriers in close proximity and with better radar and radio comms it is not likely that the rong aircraft will land upon the rong carrier. Having two RN carriers together may happen on and off. Other than that perhaps PLAN will have 2 similar early carriers + ski jumps together - who knows if it will happen again.
The jet in the photo is Korean War era when there were a lot more carriers bumping together and passing in the night. I have photos of various Western Navy jets up until the early 1980s with tags from other carriers / squadrons, whether they landed on the wrong carrier or just cross decked. The heavy paint jobs of course were for the 'wrong carrier landings'.
