TEL AVIV: As the COVID-19 virus hammers Iran, killing senior government officials and at least several thousand citizens, Israel may be readying for a confrontation, even as the US signals that it is ready to act against Iranian forces on Iranian soil, should it be necessary.

A joint military exercise of the IAF and the U.S. Air Force started yesterday over southern Israel. Expected to end tomorrow, a large number of F-35 fighters will perform a variety of missions over the desert.

According to the IDF, the exercise will be conducted only in the air. Israel defense sources told Breaking Defense the exercise includes large formations of fighter aircraft, including F-35s, performing joint attacks on ground targets with the two air forces sharing targeting data. The sources said the U.S fighter aircraft flew to Israel from the Gulf region and are air-refueled. No US aircraft will land in Israel.

The United States and the United Arab Emirates held a large exercise, Native Fury, on Monday with troops from both countries operating side by side at Al Hamra Military Base. They practiced clearing and taking a Middle East city with 4,000 U.S. troops from the Army, Marines and Navy. They used armored vehicles and other equipment from Kuwait and the island of Diego Garcia....

No force on earth can ever forcibly make a CVN return to port and keep it out of action for a while....except a virus. If anyone thinks it isn't a war, biological warfare! 1 case a couple of days back, 25 today...

Looks like virus contingency is going to be standard in navy lingo.

The chinese think with 36 or more sailors onboard getting Covid 19, the CVN will take at least 2 weeks to disinfect. That could mean 2 carriers out of action for a short while, if correct.

Opportune to relook at bunk design for future CVNs.

The Chronicle's article with the captain's letter. Looking at the experience of the diamond princess, valid points all round.

Roosevelt Captain joins the 10 million on the dole line for not having clean hands after a leak.

Absolute no no in a virus pandemic besides the other sin of pointing out the incompetence of his boss. This weasel will however salute him and anyone who puts the lives of his crew above his job. Too few at the top nowadays.

After intentionally avoiding the brouhaha of the past few days, back to the facts. Nimitz is now the 4th carrier to have personnel with Covid 19 (2 cases), joining the Carl Vinson (1 case), Reagan (2+ cases) and Roosevelt (286 cases).

Carl Vinson just undocked on 6th after a deep clean.

The French navy's flagship, the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, is returning to home port after dozens of crew members showed signs of COVID-19, the armed services ministry announced Wednesday.

In a statement, the ministry said "around forty sailors are today under close medical observation. They are showing symptoms consistent with possible COVID-19 infection."
