Rear right wheel strut had lost locking nut at top which resulted in landing gear coming apart and dangling making it impossible to retract the landing gear and land safely.. After a couple of passes at Edmonton, Alberta airport the pilot landed as gently as possible and no further damage.

Crashed 600 feet short of the runway during a night approach to Fort Wainwright, Alaska killing 9 of 18.

Some time in 1983 CC-130E 130328 jumped the chocks during an engine run up and ran into this parked CC-130E. Occured at CFB Trenton, Ontario and both aircraft were able to be rebuilt as there was only minor damage. Investigation found the brakes were not funtional on CC-130E 130328 as auxiliary hydraulic systems had not been operating.

Engine run up while parked at Resolute Bay Airport, North West Territory (now Nunavut) the port landing gear suffered a severe hydraulic leak. Before the parking break could be applied the aircraft rolled back and ice had built up causing gear to slightly retract. Relatively minor mishap with no injuries. Cause was deemed to be weather related.

Crashed after hitting a hill during a low level practice LAPES drop at CFB Wainwright, Alberta killing 5 of 7 members on board.

Hit rocky slope on night approach 16 kilometers away from CFS Alert, North West Territories on Ellesmere Island. All survived the impact, but five passengers and crew succumbed to hypothermia while the remaining thirteen survived. Rescue attempts were reduced due to a blizzard. A film called Ordeal in the Arctic was based on the story about this crash.

Suffered damage to the number 1 engine during landing roll at CFB Edmonton, Alberta when the engine fire warning system light came on and the extinguisher activated. Later found that the turbine had disintegrated and shrapnel had damaged the flaps, propellers, fueling tank and external fuel tank on the left side. Later determined that an engine turbine spacer had failed. Aircraft was repaired.
18 Sep 1973 [ act] 130322 65- 12767 RCAF 435 TRS CC-130E AIB Report Details
Shortly after repair from the January 1973 mishap when aircraft was damaged in an advanced training exercise. Aircraft was practicing a LAPES drop followed by a JATO assisted climb to simulate a confined drop zone. When the JATO bottles fired, the ramp was still down and the rockets caused burn damage to the actuator jack attachment points. Cause was a judgement error on a non-standard JATO procedure that was planned by the JATO trained pilot. No injuries and the aircraft was easily repaired.
16 Nov 1982 [ w/o] 130329 73- 1589 RCAF 435 TRS C-130H AIB Report Details
Crashed at CFB Edmonton, Alberta during LAPES mission after chute opened and the load did not clear the aircraft. Centre of gravity changed and the aircraft suddenly banked left and impacted the ground with all seven crew (six Canadians and one American) members killed.

Mid-air collision with CC-130H 130331 over CFB Edmonton, Alberta. The aircraft was lead aircraft as part of a mass fly over which included 2 other C-130s and other Air Force aircraft marking 61 years of the RCAF. The two aircraft collided during battle break recovery when this aircraft hit on the underside by C-130 130331. Ten on board this aircraft were killed. The third C-130 was #130333 which landed safely.

The two aircraft collided during battle break recovery when this aircraft hit the underside of lead aircraft C-130 130330. Ten were killed, likely 5 crew on each aircraft. The third C-130 was #130333 which landed safely.

Errors and Omissions

More crashes of RCAF C130s

1964 C130B 10304 crashed in a field in Saskatchewan after the forward cargo door blew off at 29 thousand feet. All survived, aircraftvwritten off.

1967 C130E crashed in Trenton while on a training mission. Forgot tail number.

1977 or 78, C130 E 130312 crashed in northern Quebec while on a SAR mission. All killed except the co-pilot and the FE.

1964 C130 crash

The aircraft had just left Rivers were it was being serviced. John Moore was the captain the door took out the two starboard engines ripped the top of the aircraft and took out number 3 and damaged number 4. How he did it is a Miri le but he landed the C130 in a mud field skidding to a stop Crazy good pilot
