Originally received the C-130A during 1956 as the 774th Troop Carrier Squadron at Ardmore AFB, Oklahoma. Redesignated the 774th Tactical Airlift Squadron on August 1, 1967. Inactivated for a short period from June 15, 1971 till June 1, 1972 when the squadron had moved to Dyess AFB, Texas. Redesignated 774th Airlift Squadron on November 1, 1991. Disbanded on October 1, 1993. Reincarnated as a provisional unit, 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, on December 4, 2001 for operations in Afghanistan. No aircraft assigned.
