A loop is an OK maneuver for a trainer ( Military) or Fighter Jet , but not a cargo plane. In the first place a loop is a 4 "g" maneuver , which is one "g higher that the max of 3 "g''s allowable for the C-130 / L100 . In order to accomplish this the loop had to be done at 3 "g" 's ,which risks a stall at the top of the loop and could bring the pull -up close to the ground. I have pulled 3 "g" 's in C-130 at Edwards AFB as part of a test Program , but it was done to not get the plane anywhere near vertical.
In short this Retired Test Pilot says this was " not too smart ".

So ... did the demo pilots wake up that fine morning and decide "what the hell, let's just go out and wow the crowd with a loop"
Might there have been some input from the company engineers and not the least for VP level types. I mean we're talking about a one of a kind, pricey company article. If the higher pay grade types didn't think that it was/is feasible and safe ....

Just saying, you might not think that it was the smartest thing to do but obviously, the L-M folks think otherwise

I hope & pray that they had the blessings of Very High Management. But was it worth the risk ? I would like to see the results of a severe Turbulence Inspection on that plane SMP 515 or Dash -6.The F-22 was pranged getting a photo of an AB go around' not approved.Or the fate of the HTTB when the published Test Plan was not followed. Back in the day when Leo Sullivan was Chief Engineering Test Pilot there was much more disclipine and all non standard operations had to be cleared by him.

I just picked up on face book that the pilot was the Chief Test Pilot for the C-130J project. He retired after that flight , so that was his farewell flight to loop a C-130 at the Farnsbough Air Show.

Some of the earlier parts of the show resembled the "negative pressure " check from Production Test Flight. If you say it was not a loop ,but an optical illusion OK.
