It has been some time back, around 1997 a Vendor approached me on the topic of an electric ACU for LAC 3035 ,Modern Technology Demonstrator. I do not recall the vendor's name since it's been so long. They wanted it for use in flight as well as on the ground. I nixed the inflight idea but OK 'ed the ground. Allied Signal came along & installed ceramic bearings in my standard "A" model aircondition unit and ground & flight performance improved almost to FY 74 standards. We began our NASA X-38 airdrop program at Yuma Proving grounds that year & the ACU fell through the crack due to our operational activity. I think that the ground operation would be OK , but check with Honeywell ( Allied Signal ) first. However the ACU will save GTC operation time.
