Technical Help

Feel free to discuss anything here - as long as it is C-130 related.

Good Morning,

I worked on MC-130Ps (formerly Hs, Ns, etc...but the AF has their naming schemes to keep us all confused), as E/E for 4 years.

Now, 20 years later, I've got Mesothelioma (Asbestos cancer...good times).

What I'm trying to figure out is, were there any components on the C-130E (63-7814) or the MC-130s that were know to have asbestos?

Gaskets, insulation, wiring, engines, valves,....anything?

I can't seem to find or get access to TOs (the 2-8 or 2-10 or even the IPBs) to look up things I know I touched/used on the daily basis.

Tail numbers I worked on:

63-7814 (slick)
66-0213
69-5819
69-5820
69-5822
69-5823
69-5826
69-5827
69-5828
69-5831

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Flaps had asbestos in the area behind the engines , the exhaust trail. Depending on who did the PDM determined when they were replaced with high temp sealant and 0.032" 2024T3 . All brakes pucks were originally asbestos.

Hi

If this question is answered, do you mind if I ask as to what "slick" refers?

Thank you!

There are lots of models of C-130's, AC, DC, EC, GC, HC, JC, JHC, KC, LC, MC, NC, RC, SC, TC, VC, WC,YC.
And probably a few more. They all have special missions.
A slick is a straight C-130 cargo plane, by the way the Canadian Herks are designated CC by the Canadian AF but they are really slicks.
