As the German Air Force still has Problems with the A400M but their first C-160 will reach end of life, they have to look after a Interim (or permanent) solution. Rumors say that 10 C-130 might be go to the GAF. Does anybody have more Information about this?

Given the recent announcements by German MoD officials, there's increasing indication that the German Air Force is going to become a new member of the C-130 community.

The German Air Force has positively identified an urgent need for "4 to 6 aircraft smaller than the A400M", the latter being deemed "too big and too heavy" for "certain operations". A C-130J procurement is not directly related to the ongoing problems with the A400M. Instead, it shall be also regarded as a measure to close a dedicated (and recently identified) gap in capabilities by 2021. The C-130Js are goint to be procured to supplement the 53 A400M aircraft on order.

The final number of airframes has yet to be announced, German officials also indicated that GAF C-130Js shall be jointly operated with France. More news to come by the end of the year.
