The top one is LAC 3196 a C-130D-6 , which means that it was originally a C-130D Ski Plane ,then but was retrofitted to be a non ski plane. The D-6 designator was required due to the hydraulic system . these planes could be modified back to ski planes. The C-130A-4 contains a section titled "DESKI-RESKI "which documents all of this.
The second plane is LAC 3005 or the 5th C-130 built. During the Mid 80's the remaining "Roman Nose" ( APS 42 Radar ) were modified at a contract Depot. The modification resulted in a "Swing Radome" like all C-130's starting with LAC 3501 ( first B model) and APN-59 Radar. The exception on the "Swing Radome" was the HC-130 H & P Models which had the Fulton Recovery System. Of the 12 remaining "Roman Nose" planes 11 were modified at the Depot and one was done at the Rhode Island ANG Base with a kit provided by the Depot.
