A bit of update, both of these were converted into C-130H-30's by the Canadian Air Force. They never did fly in the RCAF as L-100's. At the time of purchase, they were brand new white tail L-100's with only a few dozen hours on the airframes. Both were originally destined to a civil carrier when the purchase was cancelled. Both spent a good half year at CAE Aviation conducting the modification work.

When I graduated from Basic Training in the Army in September 1966 I had to fly home on leave. When I left Clarksville, Tennessee I flew in a DC-3 to Nashville, then took a "civilian Herc" to Cleveland, and then a 707 to Detroit. I flew from the oldest to the latest planes all in one day. My first time in any aircraft. Was amazed at the 4 engines in the Herc.

It just came to me that they were called "Electras".

That probably was an Electra , for there were no L-100's Certificated for " compensation or hire " in the US (Public ) .There are some so certificated ,but only in service in Foreign nations. I flew two of them , LAC 4695 ferry flight from New Braunfelds TX to Marietta GA. ( South Africa ) and LAC4923 full FAA Certification at Greenville SC. ( Indonesia ) ( cover of Aviation Week April 14 1990 ).
There are some US operators carrying Passengers on pallet mounted seats , but that service is Restricted to " Company business" only.

Electras are low wing Turbo Props, looks somewhat like a P-3.

5022 ET-AJK Ethiopan Airlines
5306 ET-AKG Ethiopan Airlines

Still at Debre Zeyit Air Base in Bishoftu Ethiopia, The country reported 12,300 actual flight hours for s/n 5022 and 6,500 actual flight hours for s/n 5306 as of June 2015. I would add about 300-400 hours a year on on 5022 since it is the only one flying teh peace keeping missions in east africa.

5306 hs not flown in over a year, they dont have many spare engines and this one has a bad gear box and turrbine damage (sounds like they dropped something inside, I suspect FOD)
