Found this ad on my latest issue of Code 1 magazine:

There might be truth in advertising after all. This Lockheed advertisement from 1955 touts the then-new C-130 Hercules as a “heavy duty cargo hauler, push-button cargo dropper, airborne ambulance, high-speed infantry carrier, and a paratrooper’s best friend,” which are all things the Hercules has been used to do at some point over its fifty-eight year career. The model for this ad was an actual US Air Force C-130A (Air Force serial number 54-1622) and was the ninth Hercules to come off the Lockheed-Georgia Company assembly line in Marietta, Georgia. The real version of this aircraft was delivered to the 314th Troop Carrier Wing at Sewart AFB, Tennessee, in 1957. It was later modified into an NC-130 testbed.

My Dad transitioned into the C-130A from the C-119 at Pope AFB, NC around that time. He was an IP in the A model, and we later moved to Naha, where we lived out in the "boondocks" before moving into a duplex on base. When my Grandpa got cancer, we moved to Sewart AFB, Tn, where my Dad continued as an IP, I believe the 314th were still flying A models and there was a short period of B models and then the infamous E, which my Dad dearly loved. It's odd that on my dads tombstone, someone in our family had a B model lazeretched rather than an E???

I would add that the Horsemen flew the three bladed A model, when the B came out, well that was the end of the Horsemen.
