Serial for Egyptian Hercules crash 21 Sep 2014 - 78-0759

Feel free to discuss anything here - as long as it is C-130 related.

Does anyone know the tail number or the Lockheed number of the Herk that crashed a couple of months ago.

Thanks
Bob

Yeah, no one seems to know the aircraft involved.

Current political climate likely means we may not know for a while. But just in case, does anyone out there know the serial?

Hi Jon,

New here but I was thinking that a fairly easy way to find out would be to compare a picture of the crash with images of all EAF C-130s and check the paint schemes.

Here's a list of all Egyptian C-130s I drew from the database that have not been written off yet:

I might have to double check some of the other serials but I strongly suspect the crashed C-130H was:
78-0759 1280/SU-BAL.

Have a look for yourself:

It might also be good to check spotter reports of Egyptian C-130s that have been seen after Sep 2014.

Mich

Hi Mich,

Thanks for looking into this one and welcome to the forum. Your evidence is very compelling and this could 'possibly' be 'SU-BAL' that was lost C-130 from Egypt. Shame there has not been any confirmation about the this from any sources.

Anyone got a photo of SU-BAL we can use to update the database?

I've put the photos side by side. It's not 100% conclusive to me yet but can't find a better matching paint scheme:

The two on the right I would say don't quite match.

I think the aircraft that crashed has to be one of the following:

1285/SU-BAR
1287/SU-BAT
1289/SU-BAV
1296/SU-BPJ
1298[SU-BPL]

All of the other Egyptian C-130s have been noted since October 2014. I suspect it is one of the first three because I believe 1296 and 1298 (ex Danish) are still in their original grey paint scheme.

Regards

If I'm not mistaken, that is the old style VOR antenna. It was a box type antenna that was slid into the vertical from teh left side and then attached via screws on both sides (metal doublers attached to acft on right side, doublers attached to antenna box on left side). The system has since been replaced/deactivated...the box stayed in place and blade antennas were added to both the left and right sides (see pix below).

Thank you for clarifying that!
