Some really good videos of the jet, rare footage, particularly of it performing STOVL operations. The ROAR off that engine

Haha...fugly for sure from certain angles; not from others in my opinion. The shape was futuristic head-on and from other viewing perspectives. I liked the proposed production version of the plane.

Awesome video, thank you for pointing it out basher! Some very interesting info there.
Btw, I think X-32/F-32 design would've been great for a modern medium bomber like A-12 Avenger II was supposed to be. Basically a twin engined and enlarged F-32 with larger weapons bay(s) that would drop between F-35 and B-21. Of course that might well be redundant given the capabilities of F-35.

1. They had to leave parts on the ground to do a vertical takeoff. And that was BEFORE any inevitable weight gains.
2. It sucked down recirculated exhaust like nobody's business.
3. It was ugly AF.

Yeah, I think the STOVL version would've been a major PITA to develop into something useful. If F-35B development proved difficult, imagine what kind of SWAT would've been required for F-32...
Also if F-35B with relatively cold exhaust required improved deck coating, F-32B would've probably required twice as good coating.
I agree it was ugly (and fat) AF and made X/F-35 look really sleek and sporty.

I think they did came up with solution for exhaust gases, but only on simulated model, it would have some moving intake so it would extend enough so exhaust gases aren't problem. But that intake design and stealth similar to F-35? Hardly.
