I remember seeing this a long time ago somewhere. It deals with the spangdahlem crash and the aftermath with the crew chiefs. I have found all of the written articles. I'm wondering if anyone has a video copy or computer copy of the actual show that was done on one of the tv news shows. I'm wanting to show it for one of the classes i teach. Any help would be appreciated.

I seem to recall is was Bitburg,... but maybe Spang. Anyways, if you're referring to the one that the flight controls were rigged wrong, I recall reading in the press that one of the maintenance guys committed suicide over it.
A very sad and tragic story.

I doubt you can do it online, but check the Air Force Times' back issues (base library maybe, or just contact, www.airforcetimes.com ). I'm sure they did articles on this accident back then.

This happened several times in the Eagle. When I was at Holloman our Air Division Flight Safety chief (I know..what's an Air Divsion?) was killed by this mistake on an FCF. He rode it in to avoid dumping the jet into housing. Sadly this problem was identified in an AFTO 22 suggesting that the couplings be color coded which would have prevented this from reacurring. Depot's response? Disapproved. T.O. is adequate as written.

When Jet # 2 crashed that particular C I V I L S E R V A N T should have been arrested for criminal negligence.

The phase supervisor of the Germany crash killed himself in grief over that.

I remember this event vividly. I was working up at Weapons Standardization at the time. I'd also like to see that 60 min clip. Never got to see it. I too have read just about everything concerning this incident. The whole thing was very tragic for everyone involved and it was too bad the way it all ended.

I finally got a copy of it but its 120 mb. Really pisses you off and just goes to show that you can't trust big Air Force for sh*t.

akruse, I would so appreciate a copy of that 60 Minutes interview! I HAD it on VHS, and, cannot find it anywhere? That was my Squadron. The interview took place when we were TDY to Florida in 97 I believe? We were briefed to refer everything to "public affairs".

I will PM you with some info for you to "send me a copy"?? I want it for Accident Investigation class as well. Thanks, J.B.
