RAAF F-111s grounded in Australia after incident

Saw this incident on the news last night and tried finding video footage. The mishap F-111 was on a routine flight when a left-wing wheel fell off shortly after takeoff at the Amberley base, West of eastern coast city of Brisbane AUS. The plane had to stay in the air for 3 hrs to burn of the fuel before landing safely at its home base using the cable and tail hook to assist in arresting the stop.

that is one hell of a landing! pilot has got a pair for flying low enough to catch the barrier to bring it down. kudos :cheers:

Tech book cable landing, well done Mate, well done!
More than likely have "been there and done that at some point", it sure keeps you young if done correctly

i thought the F-111 had a fuel dump option... at least that's what they do at the air shows all the time.. :?:

Heard that the F-111 did indeed dump fuel rather than burn it off over Moreton Bay.
Apparently the Aussie`s may try to extend the F-111s life past 2012.....

Yep....that's true to both answers.....
More than likely have "been there and done that at some point", it sure keeps you young if done correctly
