At 1610 on Monday 16th January; Typhoon T.1 ZJ810 'BI' of 29Sqn RAF Coningsby made an emergency forced landing.

The forward nose gear failed to deploy via automatic or manual control and the decision was made to land the aircraft at RAF Coningsby rather than eject.

No-one was hurt and the aircraft has sustained what seems somewhat minor damage in the form of the nosecone snapping off and the radar being smashed a bit.

The aircraft was removed from the runway at 1115 this morning; the runway will remain closed while fod, damage and crash investigations are carried out.

Full marks to the crew for bringing her down in one piece!

Hope thats of interest.
Andy

You have probably already seem this photo Andy, the damage seems not too great. The crew got out safely which is what counts! Seems that the front main gear strut extended but the wheel itself wouldn`t?

I'm just glad the pilot's OK :) ! It's also a good thing that the plane wasn't too badly damaged.
