Incredible, and a testament to the design team at McDonnell Douglas. I wonder how much longer Iran can keep those F-4D's going, LOL.

Too bad IAI Super Phantom never materialized:

As it approached, it sounded like it was ripping the air apart, violently. I had the distinct privilege as a youth, for a time, to grow up around that plane. Never will forget it. Amazing piece of engineering from a better time..

Very much so. I always though it sounded so angry, like it was punishing the air for getting in the way, beating it into submission.

Didn't need no stinkin' stealth. Ear-splitting, black smoke sky-blotting, bent wing weirdness; you knew the Phantom was coming. You just had to deal with it

Flew USAFR Ds (both 457th & 465th) against 111 Filo Es at Eskisehir in 1984. 111 Filo has operated F-4Es since 1979 I think. 41 years.
They must be really good with them or really tired of them....or both.
Coincidentally, looking for our old tail numbers on the net, I found one we flew against 111 Filo in Turkey that was eventually sent to the ROKAF and is now retired....or finally fell apart.
Respects to the crew chief, Neil Bradley, who kept this old derelict (the Phantom, not me) in good enough shape to get it across the Atlantic....and back....and finally one way across the Pacific, so eventually the ROKAF could have it:

The 302 Squadron information is outdated - they transitioned to F-35A in 2019. They got their eagle back on the F-35 tailfin earlier this year
301 Squadron is now under the 7th Air Wing and is now based at Hyakuri. 302 Squadron also returned to Hyakuri before the F-35A transition, they now fly those out of Misawa.
Still smokin'!
