Tehran Oil refinery strike
Feb 27 1988
After destroying the oil refineries closer to borders ( Kermanshah oil refinery Nov 15 1987 and March 5 1988 - Tabriz oil refinery Jan 1 1988 and April 3 1988 - Shiraz oil Refinery Oct 10 1987 - Isfahan oil Refinery 1986 and April 3 1988 - Shaik Shuaib island oil Refinery March 11 1988 - Boshehr gas storages ( March 16 1988 and April 4 1988 ) ..... The Iranian government decided to expand Tehran oil refinery because its remoteness and the difficulty expected to face Iraqi AF if they tried to attack this far location.
Nonetheless The Iraqi AF decided to attack this refinery also ... And so on Feb 27 1988 the Iraqi AF attacked from Mosul AB to distract the Iranian whom their intelligence was focusing on Kut AB for such an attack .

Strike Force
4 Mirages F.1EQ supported by 4 Mirage tankers and they flow on low altitude , the refueling took place inside Iranian air space 80 nm because the target was so far ( over 500 nm ) .... When the aircraft arrived they drop their bombs and as expected the Air defenses were suprised because no Radar had detected them ( low flying - mountain cover ) ... The Mirages took southern route to exit to elude any interceptor that these planes from Kut AB .... After few minutes the planed turned north and on their way back they refueled again and made it safely.

Are you planning to post details of the missions against all these refineries, Shiraz , Kermanshah as well?

If I get the informations I will post them ... Meanwhile I am starting a new series about the first days of the air campaign in Sep 1980 ... If you like check it on Air power forum
