Do We Want to Defeat ISIS — Or Not?

That is such a naive point of view on how air power works and how target acquisition, IDing, and command structure.

What those fools at Breitbart are effectively asking for is blind carpet bombing at anything that moves.

We'd be making more enemies than helping people if we followed such dumb advice.

What's the point of blindly bombing any target that moves.

That's gonna create more enemies than killing them because we already have a HARD time IDing if the target moving out and about is a ISIS combatant or a regular schmuck walking around.

We're fighting a Counter Insurgency, not a military from a conquered country.

Those people will end up joining ISIS instead of defecting.

If they have no better place to go, then they'll end up helping ISIS.

The whole article is full of cheap, transparent rhetorical tricks. "Either you are with us, or you are against us".

Not worth the time.

It's breitbart.com. Not worth even clicking it. Just imagine what Trump would say, and you have the gist of it. I.e., a bunch of nonsense by someone who hasn't gotten a clue what they're talking about.

The news reports of late are that ISIS fighters are giving up en mass. What's made the difference? More airstrikes? Drone activity??

Something's different...

Sleeper cells probably. Get inside, cause more havoc at a later date.

I wonder if torturing every ISIS fighter to death would negatively affect recruitment numbers. How about turning the tables and letting the women they've been raping stone them to death? Let the people who ISIS thinks are undesirable feed the ISIS members' faces to hungry rats? Let the goats have their way with the Jihadists the way the Jihadists had their way with them? Interesting questions......

In case you haven't been paying attention, they've lost significant territory over the past couple of years and this year lost their 2 largest strongholds in Iraq and Syria; Mosul and Raqqa (the latter of which was considered ISIS's last stronghold).

Here's 2 maps from http://isis.liveuamap.com/en which show just how much ISIS has lost this year alone (ISIS = black, Red = Syrian / Iraqi government forces, Green = Syrian rebel groups like the FSA, MaT, etc, Yellow = Kurdish Peshmerga, YPG, PKK, SDF):

ISIS 01 Jan 2017.png
ISIS territory as of New Year's Day 2017

ISIS 16 Oct 2017.png
ISIS territory as of today, 16 Oct 2017

Now that they're on the backfoot, many of their fighters simply consider the fight lost. They have been trying to leave sleeper cells behind in cities, but many of those cells have been eliminated as well.

Hard to argue God has decreed you will rule the world when your retreating on all fronts. With millions dead, their cities in flames, and food running out even the Japanese were in despair in 1945. In the end not many people want to die for a lost cause. Like other fanatics down though history, ISIS sold their followers a bill of goods they couldn't deliver. The rest of the people caught in the middle are just trying to survive. These sicko's thought they were hearing the word of God, now all they hear is the devil laughing.

ALLAH HU AK...BRRRRRTTT.

Besides; there's no victory against an ideal; let alone a sick disgusting one.

Unless you pull a Hitler toward all muslims and make it a cultural/race thing with a billions of tons of armor worth of Crusade. But that would make us exactly as sick and disgusting as them.

Your right that force isn't a complete answer to hate. It's only a short term solution, to the immediate problem of preserving life. Returning hate for hate only produces more hate. Only an idea can defeat another idea, only love can defeat hate. Not to get into religion, but it's the values of human decency that we have to preach. All the great faiths of the world preach love, forgiveness, and respect as the highest commandment of God. The alternative is to stare into the abyss.

We need a way to teach them the greatest of all human values: diversity.

They just can't accept that. They cant accept the real world is full of shade of greys; not just black and white.

It is more of a cultural thing then just a religion issue.
Not that most of muslims actually give a damn about that

So what happened to the Forum etiquette?

Avoid politics and religion: http://www.f-16.net/guidelines.html

There's a reason why we have this guideline: it prevents this forum from quickly turning into a political and racist vulgarity.
"Those who know don’t talk. Those who talk don’t know"
