Just read that the US is sending F15C's to Syria supposedly to escort other air assets. How does the F15C matchup to the Su-30's that Russia has in the area?

Thanks.

I see that F-15Cs have these advantages:
- Better BVRAAM in late model AMRAAMs vs. R-27s seen in Russian aircraft. I'd take AIM-120C/D models over R-77/RVV-SD models also.
- Better WVR missiles in imaging IR AIM-9X vs. R-73/74.
- Many F-15Cs now have significantly better radar in AN/APG-63(V)3 and (V)2 AESA

Su-30s have IRST which might be useful in some situations, although it has very limited capabilities. N011M Bars radar likely has some advantages over MSA AN/APG-63/70 radars equipping non-AESA F-15Cs. Both have some performance advantages in some parts of the flight envelope. It's impossible to say anything about EW systems. IMO, the two are reasonably closely matched that it comes down to training, tactics and supporting assets. The last one is where USAF F-15s have the serious upper hand. Having F-22s, E-3 Sentry AWACS and other aircraft for support gives the F-15s huge advantages compared to Su-30s.

What we can say about EW is that F--15C does not have any and Su-30SM has Knirti Jammer pods installed.

The BARS radar on Su-30SM outmatch the F-15C radar, unless it has AGP-63 v3 AESA.. well does it?

Even with Jammer pods on wingtip stations and six missiles, it will have much better utility vs F-15C with two wet bags and six missiles.

What makes you say the F-15C doesn't have EW capability? F-15Cs carry ALQ-135 jammer pods. Front line Eagle squadrons are equipped with the most advanced radar systems not older ones. The F-15C has a much smaller RCS then the SU-30 which should give it the advantage of first look first shoot. It carries better missiles. On top of these advantages the Eagles would have more support assets such as AWACS over Syria giving it the edge in BVR combat.

The Eagle is a much lighter machine giving it a power advantage. The SU-30 has a higher AOA, but can it keep up with an Eagle going vertical? We have every reason to think an Eagle would hold it's own in WVR combat.

Just what AA experience does the Russian Air Force have since WWII? Some dog fights in Korea where they lost 1/2. A few losing battles against Israel over Egypt in 1970. Does Russia even participate in international war games against dissimilar aircraft like Red Flag, or other events? I doubt they have the training to really take on a major air force. They only did what they did in Syria because they thought that under Obama they wouldn't get any push back. They were right.

What? F-15C does definitely have full EW capabilities. It carries Tactical Electronic Warfare Systems (TEWS) system with AN/ALR-56 RWR, AN/ALQ-135 internal countermeasures set, AN/ALQ-128 electronic warfare warning set, and AN/ALE-40/45 countermeasures dispenser.

There are several dozen USAF F-15Cs that already have AESA radars, so there is fairly high likelihood that those particular aircraft are fitted with AESA radars.

Hi!

I think the last big scale meeting between the us-russian technology was the '91s Gulf War. There we could see that the american technology is far better because of the more modern electronic warefare. But its true that Iraq hadn't the first line russian technology. This was more than twenty years ago. I would be curious how much can russia pare down from this gap!
