Saw this amazing video on youtube about a USAF IP going into fighter tactics with (ret) Col. Phil Handley as the Host,

Always been a fan of Col. Handley ever since his Mach 1.2 gun kill over Vietnam.

By the way, this looks like a pretty old video to me, maybe late 80s to early 90s, if anyone can give specifics, I'd like to thank you in advance.

How much has changed since these days, and are pilots still this competent in ACM like this guy?

Anyway, enjoy all.

Just finished watching it.

1993, before the advent of HOBS, and HMCS,

Wonder if today's pilots are still as sharp as this guy was, I'd drop dead on the floor if Gums tells me that the he was the IP on the floor.

Uses lots of slang terms to, the Beam, 3/9 line, elbow. hahaha reminded me of Gums a lot

Pete Boomer Bonanni - was an ANG F-16 pilot at the time I think. (Falcon 3.0 1993?)

The modern day version of that Simulator is Falcon 4.0 with the Benchmark Sims BMS 4.32 mod - highly recommended if you are interested in combat fighters and want to learn more - yeah very steep learning curve but one of the very few realistic jet simulators about (Other being DCS: A-10C)

Thanks for the added info, this was an awsome video, well worth my time, couldn't finish it yesterday.

Has the training changed much in the 21 years since this video?

Also I noticed that the Falcon and the Fulcrum had very similar turn performance that you can see in the 1 circle and 2 circle fight simulation they showed.

It really boils down to tactics from there.

That video is the real basics - but they still apply nearly as much as they did back then - as in they are a tiny part of the whole. in 1970 or 1993 you still had to consider radar/IR missiles/countermeasures/jamming/tactics/AWACs/GCI/optical sensors.

Even when you move to a basic 2v1 it gets a lot more complicated from 1v1 - let alone bigger flights - and today there are a load of new /improved technologies to factor in.......
