On April 16, 1992 the unit re-designated the 154th Training Squadron. In 2016 the squadron received eight C-130H's from the 95th Airlift Squadron.

This included flights transporting Afghani President Hamid Karzai. Deployed again for the last six months of 2006 to Afghanistan. Converted to the KC-135R in September 2007.
