June 8, 2011 (by Jonathan Somerville) - The first of the four C-130Js ordered by the Qatar Emiri Air Force had it's first flight today from the factory site at Marietta, Georgia on June 8, 2011.
An entirely new customer for the C-130, the air force will require complete training on the type. All four aircraft are planned to be delivered to Qatar by the end of the year. The contract was $393.6 million and permission given by the US Government for the aircraft on July 26, 2008. First C-130J-30 construction number 5662 was rolled out of the factory on April 27, 2011 in Qatar AF markings.
